Construction was finalised in 2014 by Allaro Homes. We purchased it mid-October and moved in early 2015. Prior to us taking up residency the house was being used as an office for Allaro and as a means of stimulating interest in purchasing and building on slope, within the Riverside Ridge precinct in Douglas, Townsville.
My husband and I had been looking at purchasing land and building a home in the area. We spent considerable amount of time selecting blocks, talking to builders and getting ideas when we met with Allaro Homes and subsequently fell in love with this house. The views were breathtaking, at any time of the day or night. The house reflected many of the design features we intended to incorporate into our new home and having a set purchase price meant we had no hidden costs associated with excavating and building on a slope.
From watching the sunrise from our bedrooms and balcony, to witnessing the full moon rising we felt surrounded by natural beauty and the views of Townsville. The design allowed for the light and breezes to move in and through the house; creating a seamless flow from the outside to the inside living areas. The neutral colours meant we could bring with us our favourite furniture and décor. The dual level design lends itself to the separation of the living areas from the bedrooms which appealed to us. The proximity to the walking and mountain bike tracks on Douglas and around the Ross River, provided wonderful riding and recreational opportunities, including fishing, water sports, hiking and trail building.
The lawn and garden is low maintenance with low-mow grass at the front of the house (benefitting from a light mow occasionally), automated pop up sprinklers and a native garden. The backyard provides privacy, bird and butterfly attracting plants and trees and is fully landscaped and irrigated. As we settled into our home, these features became more important and we were grateful for the time it freed up to rest and engage in a healthy active, and social lifestyle, with family and friends. We lived mostly towards the back of the house, overlooking the garden and views of Townsville, which offers tranquillity and separation from the comings and goings of the suburb. We were grateful to be part of a supportive and caring network of neighbours as we had moved from a close knit community and knew the benefits of being well connected to those around you.
The space caters for intimate gatherings and larger, sprawling events with design features to accommodate the full spectrum of entertainment options. The enjoyment and pride we feel based, on the compliments regarding the ambience, retreat options and outlook our home provides, never fades.
